Will wage garnishment for my student loan affect my credit?

Wage garnishment to repay your student loan will occur only after you have defaulted on the debt. As a result of the default, your credit score will drop substantially. However, by repaying the debt through garnishment, you may have an opportunity to close the default on your record. It would be replaced with information showing that you repaid the loan, but the information would still be negative. Since you did not repay the loan on time, your credit score will reflect that the debt was closed in a manner unsatisfactory to the lender. Upon further investigation, a future lender will see this was through wage garnishment.
