CLRP Eligibility Requirements for Navy Personnel

College graduates and student enlisting in the U.S. Navy that has outstanding loan debt can use the College Loan Repayment Program (CLRP) as a way to payback a portion of their student loan obligation. This program is an enlistment incentive designed to attract quality recruits by offsetting their loan during the time they serve in the Navy.

Enlistment Period

A Navy enlistee enrolling in the CLRP must enroll for a period of no less than 4 years. This allows the Navy to recoup the cost of the loan payments made in behalf of the enlistee during the period that they are on active reserve. The enlistment period for Navy reservists is 6 years.

Loan Payment

The unpaid principal amount of the loan is repaid after the enlistee serves a minimum of 1 year. The amount paid after 1 year of service is the greater of 33-1/3 percent of the principal or $1,500 for each year of service.
