Can I defer PLUS loan repayment until after my student graduates?

You can choose a PLUS loan repayment plan that works for your income, including deferring payments until after your student graduates. In the meantime, you will be asked to make interest payments only. It is imperative that you make these payments, or you risk allowing your debt to increase in size. For example, if you owe a $220 payment, $20 of which is interest, you could decide to pay $0. Then, in another year, you would owe $242 on that same amount, because interest was charged against your interest. If you are extremely needy and cannot afford payments, you may be able to have your interest subsidized while the student attends school.
