Can I apply for a student loan if I've had wage garnishment to repay a previous student loan?

You can apply for a new loan after student loan wage garnishment, but you will find securing the loan at reasonable terms very difficult. First, it is unlikely that you will be eligible for a federal loan. This is particularly true if your wages were garnished to repay a federal loan in the past. Second, private lenders will also be hesitant to work with you. Those that will are often in the "high risk" business, meaning they work with clients who have few options for loans. Since these clients, like you, are out of options, the lender will charge high interest rates and financing fees.
