Applying for a Federal Student Loan

When applying for a Federal student loan, filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is necessary.

What is a Federal Student Loan?

Federal student loans are the most abundant of education loans and can be obtained through several sources like Sallie Mae. These loans have a government guarantee and the government sets the interest at a lower rate. Almost all who apply for a federal student loan will be eligible to receive the aid, regardless of financial difficulties or credit score. These loans also have a grace period after you have completed your education, usually six (6) months, before repayment begins.

How to Apply

Follow these guidelines to apply for your Federal student loan:

  • You will need to fill out the FAFSA
  • Complete the loan application
  • If a new student, complete entrance counseling or orientation tutorial and quiz
  • Sign the Master Promissory Note

Return all of these items to your college financial aid office. They will take care of the rest.
