What are the requirements for the Indian Home Loan Guarantee Program?
The Indian Home Loan Program is meant to address the challenges of securing a private loan for federal land largely held in trust for Native American Tribes. To qualify for the Indian Home Loan Program, the following criteria must be met:
- The borrower must be an Indian or Indian family meeting basic credit requirements, be a registered Indian Housing Authority OR be an Indian tribe.
- The borrower's tribe must have complete foreclosure, eviction and housing regulations or be willing to accept a state authority in place of tribal regulations.
- The property in question must be a single-family home located on restricted Indian land or in an Indian operating area.
