VA Construction Loans: Building Your Dream Home

VA construction loans are available for veterans who desire to build their own home from the ground up.

VA construction loans are insured by the United States department of Veteran Affairs and can be used for the purpose of building on land and are short-term (commonly between six months to two years).

Discharged veterans, except for those dishonorably discharged, may be eligible for little or no down payment and interest rates that are below traditional rates. Individuals also eligible for these and other benefits ofVA construction loans are active duty service members, current members of the reserve and National Guard (after six years), and approved surviving spouses of late service men or women.

Proof of service and a certificate of eligibility (COE) are required for this type of loan. You can download the VA Form 26-1880 at or by contacting your lender in order to obtain the necessary approval.
