Can I consolidate my subsidized and unsubsidized student loans?
You can consolidate subsidized and unsubsidized student loans as long as you are past the subsidy period on your unsubsidized loans. Generally, this means you can consolidate the two forms only once you have finished receiving your loans in full and graduated from school. At this point, your subsidies will no longer have any effect on the cost of your loan. You will be required to pay both loan forms back on a predetermined schedule. If you are still receiving the benefits of a subsidy on one of your loans, it is in your best interest to wait to consolidate until after this subsidy has expired. Otherwise, you may lose the benefit.
