VA Construction Loans
VA construction loans are one of the many types of loans made available to military veterans. Because the government requires no down payment, finding an institution that will grant the loan can be a bit difficult. This is especially so during these tough economic times. In addition, these types of loans do not always cover all aspects of construction.
Obtaining A VA Construction Loan
There is a process that must be followed in order to obtain VA construction loans. It tends to be more time intensive than hard.
- The first step is to contact your VA office and request a VA Eligibility Certificate. Requirements to get this will vary depending on your service dates. Check the VA home loan site at http://homeloans.va.gov as this is where you will ultimately go to order your certificate.
- Once you have obtained your certificate, it's now time to begin searching for lenders who offer VA Guaranteed Loans. A good place to start is www.loan.com.
Building Your Home
Buying a home that does not yet exist is not so cut and dried as when you set out to purchase a home that is already there. You'll also have to hire a builder willing to work with you on the project, since with most VA construction loans funds are usually not released until the project is complete.
In any case, the best course of action is to consult the professionals such as real estate agents and brokers who will be knowledgeable as to which builders and lenders are the best choices when it comes to dealing with VA construction loans.
